ANTIHISTAMINES

Diphenhydramine (BENADRYL) / Antihistamine

DESCRIPTION

  • Inhibits the release of histamine, thereby reducing brocho-constriction and vasodilatation.

INDICATIONS

CONTRAINDICATIONS

  • Anaphylactic Shock

PRECAUTIONS

  • May induce hypotension, headache, Tachycardia, sedation, drowsiness, and /or disturbed coordination.
  • Use with caution in patients with asthma and other lower respiratory diseases due to the potential for dyspnea.

DOSAGE

  • Adult: 1 mg/ kg up to 50 mg IVP AND refer to the appropriate PRACTICE PARAMETER for specific dosages.
    • For PO administration:
      • 1 mg/kg. Currently supplied in 12.5mg/5ml.
  • Pediatrics: Refer to Handtevy System for specific dosages
    • 1 mg/kg up to 50 mg IVP
    • 1mg/kg for PO (12.5mg/5mL)
